Leading By Example
We lead by example. Right? That’s what we
always hear, but do we actually put that into action in our daily lives? Or is
it just something we take action in during the “big” things? I believe as moms
we need to take that into action even in the smallest thing.
Just the other day as I was about to tell
Tobias for the hundredth time to be a little patient with me as I’m doing something
like cleaning his bottle or something of the like, it hit me. Why would my son
be patient with me if I am never patient with him? That makes no sense right? I
mean he is MY son, he is with ME all the time so surely he will take on some of
my habits or personality. So, how can I tell him to be patient if I’m not
practicing patience myself? That doesn’t make me very “glamorous” now does it?
You see, if I am going to teach my son what is
right and wrong then I need to show him what is right and wrong. I can’t expect
him to learn patience if I am not at all patient. If I tell him one thing and
do another then I am only taking one step forward and five steps back. You’re
not really teaching if you’re doing that. (talking to myself here as well) Our
kids do not want to learn from hypocrites, they want to learn from mature,
responsible, sometimes the tough parent, who loves them, who is willing to show
them and not just spout out words.
I’ve seen it time and time again, parents who
drink or smoke tell their kids not to and the first thing their kids do is get
hooked on it. But parents who lead by example have much better results. That’s not
to say your kids won’t rebel, but your example will be with them and they will
understand what they did was wrong. Proverbs 22:6 says… “Train up a child in
the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
So, lead by example, be patient and stick with
it. Your child will learn, and when he is old he won’t depart from it. Your
children will love you for it, even if they get mad at first, when they can’t
do something, they will come around. Be blessed and glamorous.
Just something God showed me the other day,
hope it encourages you as it did me. :)
Keep being glamorous and always remember
Proverbs 31,
