"The More I Obey"

My Glamorous Mom Life

Today I was encouraged by a post from a friend of mine and I would love to share it with you! (with her permission of course!) J So, here is what my friend Anna wrote…

“Sometimes when I do my Bible study, I get the feeling that God sits upon His throne looking down at Earth and shakes His head. A lot. Today, I read Exodus chapters 14- 17. These passages detail more of the flight of the Israelite's from Egypt, particularly the destruction of the Egyptians by the parting of the Red Sea. After the Israelite's were delivered from their pursuers, they praised God with song and made a mighty noise to the name of the Lord. But this wasn't the end of the Israelite's trials. They were still without a home and completely reliant on God to provide for them.

It was a struggle though. They grumbled against Moses when there was no water, but when Moses prayed, God provided water. They grumbled again when there was no food, but after a prayer from Moses, God sent manna and quail. This time, however, there were conditions. The Lord specifically tells Moses that He is going to test the Israelite's, to see if they will obey His commands. Moses tells the people that they are to gather only are certain amount of the manna every day for five days, but on the sixth, they will gather twice as much. Did the Israelite's listen at first? Of course not! God had a head shaking moment here as the Israelite's gathered more than they were commanded and when the morning came; the excess was filled with worms and stank.

This account mirrors our everyday lives perfectly, I think. God is our Father and is going to provide for us abundantly when we do as He commands. But how many times did we actually do that without having to be dragged, kicking and screaming, through trials first? We can avoid the worms in our manna if we hearken to the voice of the Lord- that which is embedded in His Holy Word and the one that speaks to our individual hearts.

That isn't an easy thing to do and it's something I struggle with daily. When God tells me to bless someone else or to do something specific, my usual immediate response is to say but what about me, Lord? My family needs this money, someone else can talk to that person about You, I am dealing with screaming kids here, I am afraid Lord!

But I have realized that the more I obey, the less I worry. The more I obey, the better I feel. And most importantly, the more I obey, the more I hear His voice. And it is wondrous.”

Keep being glamorous and always remember Proverbs 31,
